Southdown: Your Hungry Neighbor

Quarrying in Greene County is the surface-mining of limestone, sandstone and other materials for the production of cement and aggregate. Southdown owns 5,500 (Approx.) acres in Greene Co. but only small percentage is in production. Southdown is hungry for more SCSE or high magnesium limestone which Greene County has plenty of. Where will they mine next?

Kosmos Cement Co 75 percent owned by SD. Battletown, KY assessed $42 million in severance tax payments for limestone mining. Still in dispute.

Wampum, PA plant received 5 notices of violation in 1997 and 1998 US EPA Air emissions violations. Making payments on those violations

Legal issues: subsidiary ground and soil contamination in Alabama, environmental remediation liabilities

Project capital expenditures for environment to increase in future.
